Our July 2012 chapter meeting is coming up this Tuesday, July 10 from 7-9pm at the La Jolla Brew House Restaurant located at 7536 Fay Ave, La Jolla 92037
This month we have a very exciting meeting planned and need everyone to come out and participate!
Aside from discussing latest national and local news, this month we will be holding chapter elections, ramping up our jar program as well as launching efforts for safe access in at least three more municipalities within San Diego County!
Chapter Elections The San Diego ASA Chapter holds annual elections for Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. In order to run for a seat, the candidate must be an ASA National member in good standing and must have attended at least two SD ASA meetings within the last 12 months. In addition to the four elected positions, the board currently is comprised of seven more board member seats. Those seats are chosen through nomination and vote by the newly elected Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. If you are interested in being part of the San Diego ASA Board or running for one of the four elected positions, please reply to the email and attend the meeting on Tuesday to present your candidacy to the group as well as participate in direct chapter democracy!
SD ASA Jar Program We are ramping up the SD ASA jar donation program. This is a great way for the chapter to raise much needed financial support from businesses in the community. Starting next week, we will be distributing donation jars to various businesses throughout San Diego County and need your help. Please bring an empty mason jar to the meeting on Tuesday. The best jars will be selected at the meeting, labeled, and assigned for distribution.
Safe Access in San Diego County In addition to the most recent effort to qualify a ballot initiative in the City of Imperial Beach, our chapter is ramping up efforts in other municipalities within San Diego County including Encinitas, Oceanside, Vista, as well as others. If you are interested in being part of a strategic organization that keeps the interests of patients at the forefront, then please come down to the meeting on Tuesday and get involved in the effort to protect patient’s rights throughout the county.
Imperial Beach Initiative On July 18, 2012 the Imperial Beach City Council will be hearing for the first time, the official presentation of the certification of our ballot initiative. This day will be the only opportunity the council has to place the initiative for a vote on the November ballot. As indicated by the City Manager in IB, their plan is to avoid this vote as much as possible and to delay the will of the people from being heard this November. The City Manager’s scheme is to advise the council to use a loophole that allows them to bypass the will of the people by requesting that a report be written. If they ask for a report and at the same time don’t vote to place the measure on the ballot this November, the next time the council meets after the report is written would be a few days past the deadline set by the Registrar of Voters for all cities to turn in their initiatives for the November ballot, thereby delaying the vote for at least two years into the next election cycle; June 2014. On July 18, we need everyone to come out to the Imperial Beach City Hall and urge the council to allow the citizens of IB to vote this November! At the Tuesday ASA meeting, we will be discussing the plan for July 18th in greater detail.
